HealthTEC-IMRE Webinar Series: Future of Health Sensing Materials & Technologies
Session I: Advanced Wearables for Continuous & Remote Monitoring

Digital healthcare is a rapidly growing field and has demonstrated to be able to fill in the healthcare gap in view of the growing ageing population and escalating non-communicable diseases. It improves the quality of and access to care, while reducing costs by empowering individuals with personalised and remote monitoring capabilities. Wearable devices equipped with sensing technologies are therefore increasingly being developed to enhance patient care and to raise users’ satisfaction. In this session, the speakers will share the developments of advanced wearable materials and devices to sense and track biometric information related to health or wellness.

Peh Li Shiuan
Provost’s Chair Professor, School of Computing @NUS
Prof Peh Li Shiuan joined NUS as Provost’s Chair Professor in the Department of Computer Science, with a courtesy appointment in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in September 2016. Previously, she was Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT and was on the faculty of MIT since 2009. She was also the Associate Director for Outreach at the Singapore-MIT Alliance of Research & Technology (SMART) from 2014-2016. Prior to MIT, she was on the faculty of Princeton University from 2002. She graduated with a Ph.D in Computer Science from Standford University in 2001, and a B.S. in Computing from the National University of Singapore in 1995. Her research focuses on networked computing, in many-core chips as well as mobile wireless systems. She received the IEEE Fellow in 2017, NRF Returning Singaporean Scientist Award in 2016, ACM Distinguished Scientist Award in 2011, MICRO Hall of Fame in 2011, CRA Anita Borg Early Career Award in 2007.
Shermin Goh
Research Scientist @IMRE, A*STAR
Dr Shermin Goh is a research scientist and project leader at IMRE-A*STAR. She graduated with a DPhil in Organic Chemistry from the University of Oxford in 2015 and performed postdoctoral research at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. She joined IMRE in late 2016 where her research focuses on harnessing chemistry to develop functional polymers for sensing and sustainability. Shermin and her team have been developing robust ion sensors for continuous sensing. These sensors can be used in various applications such as wearables, precision agriculture and environmental monitoring.
